6:30-7:30PM Free Salsa Rueda Workshop with Sam Turcott (SUB Ballroom)
7:30-8:00PM Team Match Orientation (SUB Ballroom)
8:00-11:00PM Dance Party and Costume Contest (SUB Ballroom)
Our Hallowe’en dance is a spooky event featuring music, food, costume contests, and lots of dancing! We highly encourage you to come in costume! There will be prizes for best female, best male, and best pair of costumes.
We will also have a free Salsa Rueda workshop – Rueda is a form of Salsa danced with multiple couples changing partners and dancing synchronized steps!
Team Match Orientationand the first meeting with your new team will take place from 7:30-8:00 in the ballroom. If you haven’t signed up for Team Match yet, sign up on the sheet outside our office (SUB 241J).
Admission is FREE for members, $5 for non-members (includes Salsa Rueda workshop and Dance Party!).
ALL Dance Club members are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting; members who are interested in running for executive positions in the UBCDC must attend the AGM. The AGM is a meeting where we discuss important items for the club. If you want to participate in making important club decisions then please attend the meeting! You will be able to voice your opinion, run for executive positions, and vote on important matters. If you are interested in running for one of five executive positions:
Secretary
Social Co-ordinator
Bookings Representative
Newcomer Representative x2
Salsa Representative
Sign up on the sheet outside our office (SUB 241J) this week. Please come out to our meeting and prepare a 2 minute speech. A short question and answer period will follow. We just want to hear a little about you and why you want to join the dance club executive. The club is a lot of fun and we’re definitely excited to welcome new people into our executive team!
V. Team Match
Team Match is the biggest, baddest, and most rowdy of all our dance events. It is a definite favourite of many of our members, and it involves things like: musical performances, parodies, dance routines, and pure CRAZINESS. It involves two parts:
1) Mini Dance Competition
You get to show off your ballroom dancing skills that you picked up from class in this total-casual and one hundred percent just-for-fun competition. It’s a wonderful opportunity as a mini dance competition. Your teachers will be your judges and you’ll compete against fellow members who dance at the same level.
2) Team Skit
You will also be placed on a team. Your team will work together to create a dance skit and perform it for everyone on the day of team match. Ideas include: Re-imagining Mario, Matrix Ballroom, Napoleon Dynamite, Grease Lightning, and UBC Glee Club. It can be funny, dramatic, a blend of both, or anything you want! Your team will try your best to impress the judges and win great prizes! Invite your friends and family to watch!
Best of all, this event is FREE! Search “UBC Dance Club Team Match” on Youtube for past skits and a good laugh.
Registration for team match opens this week in all dance classes. You may also register at our office. Deadline to register is October 29.
The actual event is on November 20, which is a Saturday. Your teams will be assembled by October 29.
There will also be a Team Match orientation (also the first team meeting) on October 29.
VI. New Website and Newsletter System
Over the summer, UBCDC’s website received a complete overhaul. It has received an elegant new design as well as a brand new newsletter system. The new website should be able to provide more information and consistent updates on club activities, so be sure to bookmark it at www.ubcdanceclub.com!
Many of you have noticed that over the summer, UBCDC’s newsletters came to an abrupt end. The new newsletter system deleted our old member list, so you have to resubscribe to our newsletter. Please do that as soon as possible and inform all your friends and fellow club members!
