Gala Registration is closing today! If you haven’t done so already, please register online here. Gala’s 50th birthday will be featuring some of Canada’s best dancers with performances, cake, and gifts for everyone! Tickets are selling out quickly so please see an exec ASAP to ensure that you get a good seat. Non-members must purchase tickets online here.

A partner search will be held tomorrow at 8pm in the SUB Ballroom for those of you who are still looking for a partner. The registration deadline will be extended for those of you who attend.

Gala Registration is closing in one week! If you haven’t done so already, please register online here. Take part in UBCDC’s biggest dance competition yet, featuring some of Canada’s best dancers. Since it’s Gala’s 50th birthday, there will be cake and presents for you. Like the 50th Gala Facebook page and share your favourite Gala Ball memories. Gala Ball is also on Twitter to provide you with the latest news and updates.

All classes will be running this week. If you don’t have a partner for Gala Ball already, feel free to ask your classmates! There is also a carpool signup for those of you who are concerned about transportation.

Please note that Newcomer A will be held in the Asian Centre instead of the SUB Ballroom this week. Newcomer D and Salsa have been cancelled this week, the UBCDC exec team apologizes for any inconveniences.

Registration for the 2012 UBC Gala Ball is closing in two weeks! If you haven’t done so already, please register online here. If you want to come cheer your friends on (or encourage non-UBCDC friends to come and cheer you on), Gala tickets are available for purchase from the execs. Be sure to buy your tickets early to ensure that you get front row seats. As the qualifying competition for the Canadian Closed Championships, Gala will feature some of Canada’s best dancers, don’t miss out on the chance to watch them compete!

Due to bookings conflicts, Newcomer A, B, C, and Advanced will not be held this week. Those of you registered in Newcomer can feel free to attend the Newcomer D class that will still be held next week.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in Dance Convention and Partner Search. It was a fun day filled with workshops to prepare everyone for Gala. Registration for Gala is still open (and there are special club-closed categories in Paso Doble and Viennese Waltz!)

Dance Convention is less than a week away! Our annual workshop extravaganza will take place on Saturday January 21st from 12:00-7:00pm. There will be technique workshops as well as lessons on specific dances that are usually not taught until Advanced (eg. Viennese Waltz, Paso Doble). For those of you who are thinking of competing at the upcoming Gala Ball, there will also be lessons on hair, makeup, and clothing that adheres with DanceSport BC’s guidelines. General dancing will take place after the workshop to provide an opportunity for you to practice the skills you learned at the workshops.

The entire day works out to be about $2 per workshop and includes free dinner! (UBCDC members pay $10 for the day, non-UBCDC members pay $15)

A mini comp will also take place if you want to flex your dancing muscles and warm up for Gala. If you don’t have a partner, we are holding a Partner Search before Dance Convention from 11:00am-12:00pm. Results will hopefully be available before the end of the day so you can meet your matches.

Dance Convention

The annual UBCDC Dance Convention will be held on Saturday January 21st (next Saturday) in the SUB Ballroom. There will be 4-5 workshops on technique, specific dances, as well as competition make-up and hair workshops for those of you who are competing in Gala. You can also come and participate in mini comp! Food will be provided!

Date: Saturday, January 21st
Time: 12:00- 7:00pm (tentative time, there will also be general dancing afterwards)
Location: SUB Ballroom
Cost: $10 for members, $15 for non-members

That works out to $2 per workshop and you get free food!
